Abstract

One of the characteristics of cold radial extrusion is high value of deformation force at the end of the process when corner filling phenomena occurs, especially when complex-shaped parts are extruded. One possibility to reduce value of deformation force is to apply relief opening in the billet. When relief opening exists in the billet, divided flow of material takes place which leads to reduction of required forming load.

In this paper determination of forming load for radial extrusion of gear like element with flow relief opening is presented. Deformation force is determined by Upper Bound method and compared with experimental results. Experimental and theoretical results show good agreement.
